Limbik creates new theatre work that explores human stories set in epic environments. Founded in 2008 and based in Suffolk, England, the company is comprised of a core of three actor-creators - Ben Samuels, Will Pinchin and Sarah Johnson - who share a common interest in the intersection of innovative theatrical style with strong narrative craft.
The Harbour, the company's first production, is a contemporary interpretation of a selkie story-folktales told on both sides of the Atlantic of seals becoming human. Limbik's version explores themes of impossible desire, following the lives of a mother and her fisherman son, forever overturned when he brings home a woman from the sea. The Harbour has played across the UK and Ireland, and will be heading to the Edinburgh Fringe in 2010.
In October, the company were selected for the prestigious Escalator Performing Arts scheme, an Arts Council England, East initiative that supports the development of new work. Research and development on their second show, Ghost Town, is scheduled to begin in Spring, 2010.
In addition, Limbik have piloted a series of workshops and professional masterclasses. Most recently, the company were in Kilkenny, Ireland working with Barnstorm, a renown children's theatre company, on an investigation of style and physicality in theatre for young audiences.
